I want to put a 33" tire on an 18" rim under the EX but don't know which route to go. 3" edge hangers or V code springs and edge 2" mini spring pack??? I know going to an 18" rim there will be a slightly harsher ride so I would like to avoid making it any stiffer by putting harder springs in the front. Any sudgestions guys please help.

Thanks,

Augie

Augie,

We have been investigating lifts for a few months now so maybe I can offer some direction. Our main goal was to keep or better the factory ride, this is the Boss's daily driver. First on our list was the edge kit (Donahoe Racing) but I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much money and just relocate my old springs. There is another company called Full Traction that makes a 4.5 hangar kit for Super Dutys, they claim the kit is not specific to the Excursion but it will work. Looks like the same thing to me, even comes with the Bilstein 5100's. I'm trying to put 35's under ours and we finally decided on a Revtek 6" kit (Under $1000.00 from Courtney @ OK4WD.com). We have talked with a few people that have it and love the ride, with any luck I'll be able to give you feedback next week as our kit is being delivered tomorrow. Hope this helps a little.
Good luck.

Mike

Auggie,
The best ride will be with a set of hangers AND shackles. You will get the factory like ride without the harsh thud from the bumpstops. I think you should look into either Fabtech or Full Traction kits. Now,
V-codes will give you almost 2 inches of travel before the bump stop and I personaly liked the ride. I just took off X codes and the mini packs and will tell you I had 3+ inches of travel with that set up and it will be cheaper if you hunt around. I used OEM Bilsteins for a f-350 and inserted the funky attachment to the top end of the rear shocks to mate to the X. I also used a Fab-Tech adjustable track bar (139.00). For the rear you could go to either a F-350 3 5/8 factory block and a add a leaf or add another block on top of the f-350 block(2 inches).

Bird I have a free set of F-350 blocks and F-250 springs for the rear. Do you think the F-250 springs will give me any lift?

NO the blocks yeah. My first spring set up was X codes and mini packs up front and f-350 rears with the factory 3 5/8 block and (2) YES 2 extra leafs in the rear to make it 1 inch higher for the proper rake. Rode like a Sherman tank too!!! Maybe 1 extra leaf and a extra 2 in block on top of the f-350 block.

NO Radius Rods will not work with big lifts. I sold them a month or 2 ago...I miss them though...Looking into getting some ladder bars to stop axle wrap and improve braking again...
