I can't hear it, but my wife says something about it all the time. The only annoying sound......... well I better not go there.
Anyway, does anyone have knowledge of similar sound? I took it to my mechanic, questioned him about possible pinging, he said he checked it and did not find pre-ignition problem. I tried 3 tanks of premium gas, (Ouch) the sound remained.
Any help would be appreciated on this.

Just tossing in my 2 cents here....but I had have an intermittant sound that comes and goes but the sound comes from the front axles. Sounds like bottle caps inside the plastic hubcap covers. It was hard to hear this over my powerstroke noise, but I could hear it when coasting at 20 - 30 mph speeds.

Turns out these are the worn out hub and shaft seals for the front end 4x4 drive shafts causing the noise.

This is a $1000 repair for both sides and is expected at around 100K to 120k miles so I hear.

If you don't have 4x4 then this ain't your problem

Hmmm, I thought I just posted a response, guess it's out there in cyber space somewhere.

Thanks for responding, I do have a 4x4, but sounds more like engine pinging, may be a heat shield, that kind of sound.
I'm stumped, my mechanic was no help. He missed my bent and leaking steering stabilizer. I changed that myself. He may be no help in any category.

I installed rubber washers I made for the 2 cabin floorboard body mounts, fixed that irritation. Thanks to you guys here, I zeroed in on it.

Take care, Jim.

You made rubber ones? What did you make them out of? I assume you placed them between the upper insulator and the body?

David,
I went to a place here in Kansas City called 'Hanna Rubber', it is an industrial rubber supply company, I pick up scraps fo various kinds of rubber stock.
I used some very hard, yet pliable rubber, cut a washer about the size of the steel washer in the bolt that holds the body mount in. I wire brushed the bolt and washer, then installed the rubber washer between the floorboard and the bolt washer. When I examined the washer after removal, you could see the wear marks where the washer was rubbing against the inside of cab body metal.
I used a 110volt impact tool, a knuckle, short extension, the bolt backed out with much resistance, after cleaning it up and lubing the threads, it went in easily.
No noise, quiet as a church mouse.
What Mods have you done to your Ex, Dave?
Take care, Jim.
