I remember a while back [I did a search on this in various forms and came up empty handed] a discussion on the length of the gas supports for the back window. Memory tells me that the ones on the two wheel drive are longer than those on the four wheel drive models. Does anyone have any facts on this? I stand 6'2" and bang my head on the open window all the time. If the struts for the 2WD are longer, maybe I'll clear the window. I checked with my local Ford dealer and all they can tell me is who has them in stock. Oh yeah, there are different part numbers for the two different models.

The 2WD struts are longer. They use shorter units on the 4WD so the lift-gate won't fly up so high.

Hey Mike,

Sound like a great reason for at least a 4" lift on your EX. I'm 6'3" & I never hit my head..... Oh, You'll need bigger tires too!

Let us know if the longer ones work for you. Sounds like a good idea you've got there.
