My 02 V10 trany temp gage has quit working. I noticed yesterday morning shortly after pulling out of the garage that the gage was in the middle of the range and not low like it should have been. I have no idea how long it has been like this as I do not normally look to see if the trany is cold, but if it is hot. Funny, it never seemed to heat up even when pulling the travel trailer.
Any ideas on where to start to get this back to life? BTW it now has about 41k on it.
Thanks!

Check two things, the ground, if you have a wire ground, (I installed an extra wire ground, as my permatex thread pipe dope was so heavy, I did not have a good ground.)
Check the fuse and power to the gage.
Good luck.

And if you HAVE to replace it....
for goodness sakes get a REAL gauge...
not one like the on- off idiot gauge Ford gave us

Ozzie, you are saying that the transmission temp gage has its own fuse in the fuse block? Also where is the sensor located on the transmission? Where did you add the extra ground?
JohnBoy, I did not know that the factory gage was that poor. Is it the sensor they use or the location of the sensor? I have to admit I am not that versed with the Transmission temp gage, but I have seen plenty of post in the last few years with people saying it should be in different locations of the loop as to what should be monitored like sump temp, out temp, and return temp. DO you suggest a pillar mount type of an addition to replace the factory gage?
Thanks for the replys!

Got8kids...
if your Ex is hauling 10 people around,
then you should consider yourself "towing" already
and need a good temp gauge....
Many that HAVE put a tranny temp gauge report how
the factory gauge is more or less rated for three stages:
COLD
GOOD (maybe)
and
TOO LATE
I've not added a tranny temp gauge, but if you have to replace yours, I would consider a betta aftermarket one...

Sorry, I was assuming it was aftermarket. I installed a small hose clamp around the sending unit body, ground wire to the body from there.
I put in a B&G or some similar initials. Auto parts store. I cut the tranny cooling line and put their tee in. Works great. |

I was looking at the gage and it is just that an idiot light with a needle. 6 kids, two adults, 1 30' travel trailer, and it never moves. always in the center. It is down with the key off. turn the key on and up to the center and it never moves. Hills, stop and go, backing the trailer and it never moves. I will need to get the after market to watch it.
Thanks for the help!
