Hey guys and gals,
I've searched the other threads and couldn't find a similar problem so I'm asking for help. I recently purchased a '00 X, 4x4 v-10 with 140k on the clock. It runs great but I ran into an issue with it starting. I recently had some soft tissue damage to my right wrist in an atv accident and when it gets in bind I lose my grip (Patient: Doc, it only hurts when I do this. Doctor: Then don't do that.) Any way, when I was turning the key in the ignition to start it I got in a bind and let off the key before the engine fired off. I regained my grip on the key and tried to start it again but it just turned over like it wasn't getting fuel. I turned the ignition back to the "Off" position and tried it again but it just cranked but wouldn't start. I did the same thing again only this time giving it some gas, like starting a carbuereted vehicle, and it finally started. Now it starts fine first thing in the morning but after that I have to crank it, let off, then crank it with gas and it starts. What could've happened and how can I fix it??? Thanks.

Not having a v-10 I would be guessing...

good luck with it...
and sounds like it needs a trip to the doctor as well !

First of all ... WELCOME to the forum!

Sounds like your IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. They've been a little problematic on the V10 ... but mostly during colder months. Your description of how to finally get it started sounds just like what I've done on two occasions when the temps have gotten into the teens.

Thanks for the tip. I did some more searching and came to the conclusion that the IAC would be the place to start. I'm pretty sure temperature had nothing to do with it as it's been staying in the high 90's and even into the triple digits here. Actually it hit 113 on 5/6! Do you have any clues as to how much an IAC would be from Ford? I'm pretty handy under the hood as long as I know what the problem is. From the other threads, it appears to be a pretty simple fix, so labor shouldn't be an issue. Again, thanks!

Sorry, but I haven't a clue to how much $$$ one costs. I never replaced mine since it acted up so infrequently.

Thanks, but you better check that two day delivery. I just checked on Autozone.com and it's listed as a special order both In Store and Online. Partsamerica.com has it instock for $84 w/free shipping. But this doesn't really apply to you if you have a hook-up at Ford.
