my 2005 X is about 8 weeks old, and my coolant keeps going down below minimum.

Anyone else had this problem, and what was the problem?

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Bob,
First off, congrats on your new purchase. As for the coolant levels, are there any noticeable puddles, leaks under your vehicle or around the engine where the radiator hoses connect? If not has this just started, or have you been adding coolant to keep the levels up above minimum for some time now? I don't know if there would be any noticeable coolant drop during engine break in or not. Maybe some of the other members could chime in with their opinions/suggestions. If it were me, I would consider taking it back to the dealer and have them take a look at it since this is a new vehicle.

Bob,
MANY have reported the coolant level is too high if kept at max...
and that the coolant degas bottle is too small than it should be....
most report that once it gets down to just below min when cold it doesn't go any lower....

BUT...
IF you have a tuner or programmer, they have a tendency to make it spit more out of the coolant overflow...

Some have gone back to the dealer and gotten a new cap for the degas, some still experience it...

Me included... but it has never overheated - even in the DFW heat....

My 2003 Ex with 6.0L PSD has been doing the same (losing coolant) from new. Have 54K miles on it now. Never overheats, but is a nuisance.

I send my oil to Blackstone Labs for analysis at every change (5,000 miles). There is some coolant getting in the oil. Probably have either a head gasket leak or oil cooler o-ring leak. Not serious yet, but I keep monitoring it.
