Been fighting for 2 years now with my 01 X's VCP LCD drop down disply that is mounted to the roof. About 2 years ago, I had sound but no pic. Finally figured out that there was a ribbon cable that runs from the display to the processor unit in the roof console that cracked from the stress of opening and closing the display over the years. DigiKey Corp had replacements, so I ordered a new ribbon cable and replaced it. Worked fine, for a few months, then the cable cracked again. Ordered another cable again from DigiKey, this time a little longer, and replaced it again. Worked fine, for a few months again. Cracked again. There is a major design flaw with this LCD display in that it places too much stress on the ribbon cable which causes it to crack. Has anybody else experienced this? What was your fix? At this point, I'd probably just rather replaced the entire unit with a better designed drop down display, preferably a Ford drop in unit that fits the shape of the overhead console and uses the same plug connectors (if I remember correctly, there are 3 or 4 plugs going to this unit).
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated! Got 3 unhappy kids (and wife!) without a TV on long drives!
Thanx.

No real advice for you, but my flip down LCD is made by Visteon... and haven't had a lick of problems with it. The VCP is another story. I don't watch too many VHS movies anymore, so I've ordered an in-dash DVD which hopefully will fit where the VCP is and I can do away with it. Does your LCD us the "sound around" function with an FM modulator so you pick up sound through FM frequency? If so, how do you like it? Mine is terrible. I finally got fed up and bought a cable for my head unit which converts the CD changer control into an auxiliary input. Now I have crystal clear sound when watching flicks. |
