I have a new-to-me Ex with the factory A/V setup. It seems that the signal being emitted to the stereo from the A/V system is really weak - even when there is no radio station on the frequency being emitted to. Is there any way to boost the signal from the A/V system to get rid of the static? It's driving me nuts. Ultimately, I would like to hard-wire the sound to the factory stereo but I'm not sure that can be done.

Kevin.I'm not positive but I believe the factory AV system is hardwired straight to the stock stereo up front without the use of a FM modulator.

Are you experiencing Poor quality/distorted sound from one or more speakers or The video system is inoperative/does not operate correctly — no sound ?

Kevin,

I have an '01 with the same thing. Anything you play from the VCP is transmitted through an FM modulator mounted behind the little "trash bag hook" down by the hump between seats. Mine only gives you two different FM freq's to choose from (88.7 and 87.9 I think). Neither one was any good...totally fuzzy and not enjoyable at all. The drop down LCD has a button called "sound around" which activates the modulator. If it's not activated, you have get sound from the headphone jacks. I got fed up and yanked the stock in dash changer. I installed a nice little Alpine with CD changer control capability (designated by the M in the model number..ie CDM-9823). You can use that plug on the deck as an aux input. The RCA's feeding the FM modulator are right there behind the trash bag hook (they come straight from the source). Need a special plug to use the aux input, but it's a piece of cake to hook up. Sounds as good as my home system now Hope this helps.

Sure. I didn't buy mine new, but the install looks as factory as they come. All of the headliner material matches perfectly. I'll get some tonight and post them for you.

I have an 02 with the factory system, and I can definitely say that the AV system is hardwired into the head unit. I had wireless headphones put it (by the authorized Ford stereo people) and they had to take it apart (so I've seen the wires) and tap into the wires for the IR transmitter for the headphones. Hope this helps!

This one is definitely NOT hard-wired. There is a switch with which to change the modulated frequency. I would LOVE to hard-wire it.
