you have a trans problem.the computer has detected a fault, maybe in the trans or some electrical component relating to the trans.get it scanned asap.try not to drive it too much or at all.once you get it scanned, you can post the codes and i will explain them to you.

should be a quick fix,i believe your speed sensor is in the differential and only one bolt holds it.

what does it do, tell the tranny when to shift. would it cause damage to other thins if it was not working. or is it related to the speedometer?

it counts teeth on the diff.tells the computer how fast vehicle is going so that it knows when to tell the trans to upshift and down shift.

hey gearman. when they took the speed sensor out there was a tone of metal shavings in there so the ford dealer is having the rear end guy check it out. meanwhile im scooting around in the gocart that i got from ford while the trucks in the shop. its a ford focus.i just hope i dont cross paths with an excursion while in the focus. maybe that is why is thuds when i come to a stop and thud when i take off.

your diff. has a reluctor wheel(big steel ring with evenly spaced teeth)bolted to diff.ring gear.the sensor(magnet with two wire connecter)counts the speed of those wheels turning and sends signal to computer.that reluctor wheel sometimes gets loose from ring gear and chews up tip of sensor.the diff.carrier will then have to be pulled and reluctor replaced

went to look at truck at lunch. diff cover is off. teeth looked preety good. the metal shavings were not little but chunks some the size of this letter {o}. they said bearings are bad and are trying to find parts.said 1050 rear end not as commeon as 8.???? series for trucks. said that rear end is like the dually"s use.asked tech if this would cause thud when takeing off he said negative. i said how about slip yoke as some fine people on this site gave me a clue to that being a problem. we both shook rear drive shaft and it definitly had slop in it. tech said he would take care of it.could be tues before she ready. got back into my rented gocart and tried to be positive. im getting a lot better milage in the ford focus than the x.

Actually the dually's use a Dana 80. The 10.5 Sterling is used on all SRW Super Duty trucks. Pretty darn common if you ask me. I must see 10 every time I drive!

I'm not too sure that it would be the speed sensor. I am interested to find out what they say. Usually when the sensor craps out you have other driveability problems plus your speedo won't work.

Did the replacement of the sensor fix it?
