For the second time, I have connected a trailer to my Ex to find out I don't have running lights. I placed a jumper in the adapter so the lights come on when the truck is started but that's simply a bandaid, IMO.
Anyone here have any idea why my connection for the running lights isn't working? In other words, when I turn the parking lights on on the Ex, the running lights on the trailer do not come on. I thought I woud ask here before digging into the wiring on the Ex.

On the 2001 there should be a 20 Amp fuse that may have failed, check that out fuse.
Check out the Trailer tow parking lamps relay which "should" be located at the main fuse panel, look in your manual for the exact one..
Last of all it could be the connector and/or the circuitry between the relay/fuse and the connector.

Do the trailer tailights and brake/turn indicator lights work -with the trailer running lights not working.
If none of the trailer lights work check out the ground to the trailer.
Also look for the acceptable power levels at the various sockets on the Excursion Trailer connector for each needed supply : taillights/brake/turn Indicators/Electric Brakes.
Find where the power ends and work backwards. Also try trailer running lights, etc with a separate source to eliminate bad connections/bulbs on the trailer.
The wiring is simple but there are several connection points for each function so each requires verification and elimination to get things working properly.
I have the pin ID's if you need it. Help is available! |

Yes, everything works but the running lights. I have not had the time to check out Bill's suggestion - perhaps this evening.

Kevin,
The Running and Taillights of the trailer are together on pin 3 (green wire) which is the pin at the 1 o'clock position of the trailer cord - looking into the trailer cord with the locating key at the top.
+12 volts on that pin will light the Running and Tailights. |
