Quick question.

Does the front bumper of a 2000 Excursion only mount with the 4 bolts (2 on each side) of the tow hooks in the front?

Reason I ask is that my '01 F350 has those 4 bolts in the front as well as some v-shaped brackets at each end of the bumper that attach to the body as well. Just wondering if I'm missing brackets on the Ex or if they are just not used on the Ex.

Thanks for the help.

Yes there is two long arm outer brackets held on by one bolt each and two at each two hook location.

I recommend two people as the bumper weighs a good 75lbs and tape off the front lower part of the fenders where the bumper ears meet to prevent costly scratches as the bumper will tilt forward when unbolted which is why a second person is needed to prevent paint damage.

On the Powerstroke Diesel equipped Excursions the block heater cord will be plastic zip tied to the bumper which will require a snip.

I have my stock bumper with the mounting brackets stored in the garage I just went and took a look at

Bill,

Anyway you could post a pic of the back of that stock bumper with the brackets? Just want to get a visual on yours compared to mine.

The reason I ask is that I picked up my Ex used and had to replace the bumper and am wondering if I'm missing a set of brackets (as it compares to my truck). I would think they would be the same, but not sure.

Thanks.

Thanks Bill.

Just what I thought, I'm missing those 2 "boomerang" shaped brackets on the ends. I bolted the new bumper up with just the 4 bolts on the front (by the tow hooks), but have nothing holding the ends steady. It's on there solid, but I guess I'll have to start searching the salvage yards for those brackets & bolts.

Thanks again.

The same brackets will also be used on 99-2004 SuperDuty trucks and if all else fails contact Dale at 800-572-1422 PowerStrokeShop for discounted pricing on Ford OEM parts

The outer brackets look to give some good stability and prevent the ears from shaking when hitting bumps in the road.

Yeah, I thought about calling him. I'm trying to find a valid part # for those 2 brackets first so that I don't have to rely on my "boomerang" description

I'm not worried about the bumper falling off, but, like you said, I want to make sure there are no weird shakes or sounds coming from the corners that will cause me problems down the road.

On his site it's listed as a "Brace" for the Pickups and "Bracket" for Excursions.
