Hey guys, the 6 disk cd changer in my '00 has crapped out on me. It defaults to disk 6, won't play disk 6, and is near impossible to get it to change to any other disk in the cartridge. Local dealer tried to tell me $1,140 for a replacement, but there has to be other, less expensive solutions. Any help would be appreciated. Andy |

Hi Andy,if you've gotten 4-5 years service from a stock CD6 I think you've gotten more from it than it was designed for
My suggestion to locate a "take-off" CD6 from another Excursion, post up a "Wanted" in the Classifieds section here at Ford Excursions and post up a wanted at SuperDutyDiesel
I've noticed that the price has really come down on the aftermarket stereos which could be an alternative for you unless you have the rear DVD/VCP center then you might have to stick with a stock unit to retain controllability.

Heck, I wil sell you mine for $650
It is out of a 2000.
I will even throw in the in dash for another 100
Well that is what the indash DVD player would cost me
I really do not want to spend the $$ since the factory system is great |

Andy,
eBay often has some pretty cheap. However, if you want to upgrade--go to Visteon.com. They make the exact CD-6 changer and you can buy an upgraded one with satellite hookup already built in if you wish. These are aftermarket products which you can buy. I do not know how much they cost.
A side note--if you take the changer out and open it up, you will find the transport mechanism relies in a cheap rubber band to move the CD stack. If it hangs on one, it may be dirty but mine--still under warranty--crapped out and was sent off to have my "rubber band replaced".
Still eBay will be your cheapest route most likely.
Good luck!

If you are truly serious about buying a used one, shoot me a email or pm and offer me a price.
I was only kidding on the 650 thought half price would be good over factory.
I have an in dash dvd player I want to put in the truck, but really hate to toss out a perfectly good running factory system if you know what I mean |

You should be aware that the 6 disk CD changer in a stock 2000 Excursion was located in the console. It is used in conjunction with the unit in the dashboard. In my case the dashboard unit also has a single CD player as well as tape casette.
The 6 CD changer in the console uses a removable magazine to hold the CD's
