Hi gang,
Has anyone changed out their waterpump yet? If so, how many miles does your rig have? It looks like the waterpump is goin' out on our PSD .It has approx. 69k. Is that good? I'm looking for a replacement and just might go back to OEM, but if someone can recommmend something else, I'm open to suggestions. It looks like it's leaking from that "relief hole" on the waterpump. I cant really tell because its kinda tight in there, but i do know that its the waterpump. Is there anything I should look out for when replacing the waterpump? Any tricks? Do I need a double jointed gremlin to get at a bolt or is it pretty straight forward? Thanks for all your help!
UPDATE:
I am in the process of changing the waterpump on our 2001 PSD Excursion. I am pretty mechanically inclined, but am having problems removing the fan clutch off of the waterpump. I don't have a Haynes or CD (I need to get one ASAP) where I can reference this problem, but 'til then I need your guys' help! I'm trying to take off the waterpump, but I need to take off the fan clutch first. How do the heck do I accomplish this PITA task??? Do I just leave the clutch on, unbolt the waterpump, then attempt to take off the clutch after I unbolted the waterpump? Is there an order of operations? I've tried to take off the clutch with a pipe wrench (with the serp. belt still on), but the serp. belt doesn't grip the pulley good enough. Thanks for any pointers.

For some reason my mind was not functioning correctly and I am feelin' like a BIG jackass. I forgot that our diesel was covered for 100k- basic warranty- so they wouldn't replace our defective door lock actuators . Right now, the rig is at the dealership gettin' freak'd by the techs and should be done by the end of the day or first thing in the morn. I'm goin to use this great writeup http://www.thedieselstop.com/contents/getitems.php3?99%2B%20PSD%20Water%20Pump%20Replacement, the next time I have to take off the 'pump. I plan on gettin that coolant filter in the near future as well as many other upgrades! |
