Painting the lower valance? Has anyone done this? With the texture I would think the paint would chip off easy? Is this the case for any of you who have done this? |

I would assume that any paint and body shop could help you. It probably depends on what you want and, more importantly, how deep your pockets are.
What are you going to paint it?
As an aside, I've heard of guys putting spray-on bedliner stuff along the bottom edge and wheel well lips of their pickups. It protects it from rocks and gives it a different look. Good luck.

A recent TRUCKIN' article was written on painting the body moldings of the CHEVY AVALANCHE to give the truck a more pleasing look, article was pretty good. I would follow it if I didn't like how my truck looked
Hope this helps

I went to a shop where they paint exotics and race cars. The guy said it would chip off and that he wouldn't paint it b/c I would be back every few months complaining about the paint flaking off. I talked to amother guy who said they prep the piece by removing the texture and then painting. That can't be easy! |

I am not sure of the issue... I want to say March this year... In the article or under one of the pictures they talked about doing something so that the paint would not chip... Will see if I still have the magazine

Correction, it is the April 2003 issue (flamed Chevy Stunner on the cover), listed under Tech: Full Body Makeover... According to the article the texture of the surface must be totally sanded down (using 80-grit paper in the article). After the texture is about three quarters sanded away they changed to 150-grit paper to finish the job. They stripped the truck of the body parts to make the job easier, truck is a '02 Avalanche, BIG difference with the before and after! Hell, had the truck looked like this from the factory, I would have gotten it instead of my X....NOT
Hope this helps
