Hey Guys, I'm having trouble with the locks on the X ('00). The stock alarm system is functioning properly (i.e. setting properly), but often the drivers and 2 rear passenger doors will not lock/unlock. I've disconnected the negative battery terminal in an attempt to reset the system and it worked, temporarily. I don't believe I have an actuator failure, but suspect something in the security arena that's causing this. Any thoughts or suggestions? |

I had the same problem with my last Ex. I can tell you it is likely actuator failure as that is a common problem. One way you can tell if it's act. failure is to either watch the lock tabs as you hit the switch to see if they try to go up or down or to put your ear to the door and listen as somone else hits the button. If you do a search, you should be able to find a lot of info.

I had to have the passenger and both rear door actuators replaced on my 01. It seems to be a common problem after a while. You CAN install them yourself but I just was not in the mood for it . Since I bought the extended warranty--mine were covered--what a relief. I don't know what re[lacement cost would be but a wild guess would be 100-150 per door. |

Ford also has NEW or updated actuators for our trucks. I have had them replaced under warranty also.
