Bill & David, here's an interesting one.......I bought to the tool to remove the stereo and took it out, the 2 speakers began working perfect while holding the stereo in my hand. As I began to push the stereo back in, I heard the familiar "crackle" a few times. As I pushed the stereo all the way in, the 2 speakers stopped working almost completely once again. I believe there is something on the metal frame of the stereo touching a metal part inside the stereo opening causing a short or something. Do you guys have any ideas?

There may be some exposed insulation on the wiring caused by chafing which could be grounding out another possibility there's a loose pin or two within the two plugs attached to the rear of the stereo head.
