Theoretical question here.

I have my '01 F350 and 2 remotes for it. Can I use 1 (or both) of those remotes on the '00 Excursion as well? I've been looking for replacement fobs, but so far have had no luck (at least at prices I'm willing to pay). So, I'm thinking I can use my truck remotes on the Ex as well.

The only time the vehicles are together is at the house in the garage and I typically don't use the remotes there. Other than that, they would be seperated and shouldn't be an issue.

Any problems with my theory? Am I overlooking some obvious problem that I should take into consideration? Any other ideas or suggestions?

Even if the vehicles are in close proximity, there should ne no problem. You can reprogram a key fob in accordance with the instructions in your owners manual. Once it's programmed for your X's frequency, it will no longer work on the F350.

BTW, have you checked eBay for remotes? The last time I looked, they were fairly inexpensive.

Your description almost sounds backwards to me.

The remote is putting out the frequency, so it shouldn't affect it working on the truck, but the Excursion should now recognize that frequency and respond as well. Or am I thinking about this wrong?

Also, the instructions I have for programming the Ex are:
- Turn ignition from "OFF" to "ON" 8 times within 10 seconds. At this time the doors will lock/unlock.
- Press any button on the keyless remote and the doors will lock/unlock for confirmation.
- Turn ignition switch to the "OFF" position. If programming was successful the doors will lock/unlock one last time.

Is that the correct procedure for a 2000 Ex Limited?

Good question. Does the programming change the transmitted frequency or the received frequency? Honestly, I don't know.

My GUESS is that the rec'd frequency is accepted now...
the remote probably sends out a single freaquency/signal and the trucks puter is now trained to accept THAT sent signal....

I'm sure... I think

If you are looking for replacement remotes, a guy on E-bay sells them for the Ex for $20. He says they are used but I've purchased 2 and they both look brand new. They come with the programming instructions as well. He has an E-bay store named Quality Remotes.

Well, went ahead and tried it this weekend. Works like a charm.

I now have a single remote that works on both my Ex and my F350. So, now I only have to carry 1 remote key fob in my pocket instead of 2. Haven't noticed any adverse affects yet on either vehicle and saved myself a few $$ in the process.

So when they are parked together - they BOTH unlock at the same time ?

JohnBoy.....yes, when they are in close enough proximity to pick up the signal they will both lock/unlock together.

In my case this only happens in my driveway on my property. I own a few acres and don't live near any neighbors, so it works out great. Now, no matter what vehicle my family takes, I have 1 keyfob that works and all I had to do was put the spare Ex key on my keyring. Same goes for my wife.
