Hello. My name is Anthony and I just puchased a 00 PSD X. I would like some tips on getting the best possible gas mileage. I know this has probably been done a million times, but I would appreciate doing it once more. Thanks

Hi Anthony,
Welcome to the site!! Congrats on your purchase. As for improving the mileage on your X, replace muffler with a Walker BTM, Aeroturbine, or complete exhaust system; Replace the stock intake with aftermarket filter (AFE stage 1 or 2, Ford AIS, MAC, etc); get a mild chip/programmer or reflash your PCM with a different program. Their are many other things to do as well and I'm sure other members will offer some excellent suggestions. I would also recommend replacing your shocks (if your X is still riding on the originals) and installing a Hellwig sway bar for better ride control. Also, you may want to check out "The 5 Must-Do Things" for new excursion owners in the Article discussion topics. Hope this helps. Once again , Welcome!! Post up as often as you like with any questions. This is a great site and everyone here is willing to offer suggestions/help to get the most out of your excursion. . Almost forgot, replace your factory themostat with a 203 degree thermo and replace the t-stat housing

Welcome as well !

Believe it or not, your right foot is the biggest abuser of the mpg calculation !

Secondly, check the air pressure in your tires and air them up as much as your bottom end can handle the ride !

Third, check/change your fuel filters...

the 7.3L X is capable of suprising good highway mileage if driven with that in mind...

good luck,
J

True, JohnBoy, very true. But, once you start adding things and seeing what it does to your X, you don't want to stop . Unless, of course, you have to start explaining to the Mrs. why there is an $xxx charge on the Visa to something-or-other diesel.com
