Hey, all....Just to let those that read my post from a few months back and left feed know that my problem has been pinpointed and cured. Turns out my problem was the fuel pump and relay. A bit more pricey than the suspected Idle Air Control Valve at $700 (diagnostics, parts and labor). I did get a chance to see the fuel tank off the vehicle and good God that thing is huge!!!! |

The problem started when I lost grip of the key when it was cranking and it didn't get a chance to fire off. First thing in the morning or after sitting for 7-8 hours, it would start fine. But after short trips I would have to crank, let off the key, then crank again tapping the the gas pedal, like starting a carbuereted engine. After a few months, it would take several turns of the key to fire up, but eventually would start....until the day the pump died. I tried ordering a new IAC from several web sites and autoparts stores in town with no luck. Everyone told me to go to the Ford dealer, if I dared...Here in Yuma the dealer doesn't have a very good reputation. So I had it rollbacked to my usual garage and they narrowed it down to the fuel pump and fuel pump relay. I figure after 147,000 miles at 12mpg, it was just worn out! I hope this helps and good luck! |
