My wife feels like I am taking a Diesel correspondance course with you'll here at this fourm ..

After talking to 2 4x4 shops and 3 local custom spring shops, most just wanted to Add-a-Leaf , will add 1- 1.5" of height and 500 lbs additional load capacity and all were confident would solve my sag issue. This will likely be similar to my 8.1 Big Block Sub ride and wife had no issue with that...

While that is being done, the SuperChip 1704-A is being sent back to manufacturer to be reflashed for latest computer updates. After reading all the posts, I believe I need to monitor the truck and will have the x-monitor installed. ( will be in Economy Mode 90% and Tow 10% of the time)

Next Round of questions regarding Air Flow in and out:
First Air Flow IN:
1. 4x4 shop carries all types of filters but feels the TrueFlow filter for the 2005 X is providing more Air intake than the K & N. What do you guys feel?

2. Is the efficacy between just a filter swap really as close to putting in an AirRaid or AFE stage 1 type?? in the 2005 X.

3. If you'll feel a new cold air intake is better , are there issues with the openess of the AirRaid vs lets say a Stage 1 AFE??

Now Exhaust:
Hesitant now to mod the exhaust and will let the x monitor guide me. Once I know the future pyro #s, can it be know if the BTM will solve the issue vs a cat back system???

Finally, for those who use chips. Do you carry it in the vehicle in case you have an issue and break down and need to reflash back to stock before heading to the dealer???

David (the anal newbie)

I am hesitant to do much with the exhaust for now and will let the monitor give me guidance.

David,
all valid questions!

My humble opinion:
Won't the add a leaf adversely affect your ride quality (or lack thereof ) ?

the 1704 is overrated in my opinion... but to each his own...
having to send it back is a major pain in the butt and shows lack of planning on Superchips part...
AND it cost you money every time Ford changes a flash !

I would strongly suggest you leave the stock intake in place and just do the ZooDad mod....
IMHO the gains are not worth the risk.....
the stock intake is excellent - flows relatively well, filters perfectly, keeps your warranty intact, and will not dust your turbo like Ford has said when denying turbo repairs due to aftermarket filters...
Even at $80 every 40K miles for a filter swap - that's cheap and shopping around gets you the air filter for the $40 range...

Actually the muffler is the first thing I'm going to do on my 05...
You KNOW you will need to control EGT's,
you KNOW the muffler is a boat anchor blocking good flow
and when your gauges tell you you are too hot, you'll still need to address the exhaust,
so why not do it first ?

Just my hunble opinion, your results (and opinions) my vary,
after al, it's your truck - you do what you like !!!

thanks for the response:
1. Our 3/4 ton suburban big block was stiff as a board and actually wife and I liked it. so that does not concern me about the change in ride quality.
2. Respose on chip has been running 2-1 in favor. I hope i am in the 2 ! since i have already bought it.

3. I have read about the ZooDad mod and some other mod ... but from what I can tell those are relevant to the 7.3 intake system. Is this correct. The 2003+ system have a different intake from the pictures I am looking at. (could be wrong). Primarily, what is the ZooDad mod or the other frequently mentioned mod and do they apply to the recent 60.engines.?

4. Is the stock intake the Donaldson. I agree spending 280-500$ on new intake does buy you a bunch of filters over the years.....

5. Does the BTM drop EGT?? acceptably that if my guages read hot, that the BTM would suffice for the 4-5 weeks of towing a year I do.

thanks EVERYONE for helping me.

The Zoodad mod has been around for a WHILE !!!

it's just cutting a hole out of the radiator support in front of your air inlet....

I did it on my 02 7.3, my 03 6.0, and just did it on the 05 6.0...

As far as benefit, who knows, but it's free, it's logical, and it definetly cools the intake charge...

The BTM alone has been reported to drop the egts 150 to 200 degrees....

Look at your stock muffler - it is a huge heat sink !!!!
the btm is a pretty straight thru muffler...

I'm supposed to get mine installed today before I leave twon tomorrow...

will do some before and after sound clips...

JohnBoy,

I have not heard of any turbo's being dusted because of the intake chage (i could have missed that post).... Is this a regular occurance? I do not tow with my truck (towing next week to Indy and that will be the longest I will ever do )... I have a AFE stage 1 that I am installing this afternoon, with the exception of next weeks tow and the occassional 6-8 mile round trip tow the truck is bascially a large luxury car used for hauling family members....

Thanks for your responses

Ray

Agreed - to each his own....
just passing along my humble opinion....
but have heard of dusting for a while...
not that I've experienced or my brothers-uncles-cousin

but just have heard it with improperly filtered air getting to the turbo...

Thanks buddy..... Actually got nervous for a minute.... I did have the same instake installed on my 7.3 and did 80K trouble free miles B4 trading it in... I was thinking the worst because of the 6.0 but I am going to install it and knock on a lot of wood

Thanks again
