I have been reading all there is out there about the Zoodad and its variants:
Alot of comments about screening/protecting the inlet...

While is it probably most optimal to have the Zoodad directly in front of the inlet, Is there any reason to think there might be some benefit to placing the cut out below the air intake.

This slight change will completely avoid bugs//rain from being able to get into the air intake but should still significantly allow more/colder air into the air intake???

During the summer I have a outside grille attached bug screen which keeps all bugs, debris out.

I've had the cool air intake for almost 3 years and never sucked up rain or snow.

We're up here in Dallas fyi

I saw someone sandwiched a screen inbetween a piece of folded over gutterguard... .

Is your screen front of the grill or behind the grill ?

David my screen mounts to the front of the grille via velcro tabs PHOTO

A friend of mine attached metal screen to the back side of the grille on his Excursion which I'll try and get pics of this weekend.

A couple of other buddies mounted metal screening over the cool air intake opening on their trucks.

Here in AZ, we don't have to worry too much about ingesting anything but dust, so I removed about 1/3 of the air cleaner housing with a Dremel & put in a K& N. I've heard all the pros & cons about the filter..... but I was impressed when towing this weekend. We went up the hills much quicker this time than with the original air filter & intact housing. It looked like the air was coming through a pipe just over an inch in diameter from next to the radiator. No way it was getting enough air through that. Even with 113 degrees outside, it ran better after the mod. Forget trying to work with that pipe & how much water might fly in. Just remove 1/3 of the housing ( leave enough for secure mounting & to keep the fan from throwing water directly at it ) and if the filter gets wet, tell the Boss you need a bigger lift!

Hi guys, I'm a commited excesive conpusive do it youselfer. When I drove my X home the first day I opened the hood took a look around and pulled the grille off. I replaced the air filter with a K&N. I then took my rotozip to the core support. I cut an oval shape patterned off a antifreeze bottle. I then cut a hole in a antifreeze bottle to the shape of the intake air tube and cut the top of the bottle below the handle at an angle to be flush to the grill when reinstalled. I seal and glued the bottle to the tube and installed the grille. I know your thing this guy crazy!! Well I did happen to have a back antifreeze bottle so if your not looking for it you can see it and if you do you won't know what it was made from unless I told you. I noticed a small difference the first trip down the road. With a gauge on the factory air box I read about a LB and a half pressure in the airbox on the out side of the filter. I atribute this air flow as the reason my exhaust temps are so low when pulling my 7500lb trailer. My Dad raised me to look at problems with "KISS" theory. Keep It Simple Stupid. Happy Hot rodd'n guys

I saw someone take a panty hose and rubber band it over the air intake snorkle

You know after I entered the last post I went outside to complete another intake mod. , removeing the intake air heater and thought I would wash my K&N. I got to looking at the box and found there was a 2"x 6" piece that could be removed to let more air into the filter housing. The air intake heater removal might not be for everyone. It comes on at zero degrees in park only. We only worry about thigs affected by rain.
