I was just about ready to but a new "X" and talked to my dealer about the 7.3 PSD, but was saddened to hear that it has been replaced solely by the 6.0 Diesel. I have seen some negative comments about this new engine. Obviously the dealer talks very highly about it saying that it is a more efficient engine that yields greater HP and torque than the 7.3, plus about 10% greater fuel efficiency.

Anyone have any new comments on this engine?

Thanks

i cancelled the order on the 03 X because there are problems.not because i read all the posts from different boards, but because i have a couple of friends in the auto business that i respect(and they just bought new ford trucks with 6.0)and they are very unhappy.big problems.

You might be able to locate a 2003 X with the 7.3 on a lot somewhere. My local dealer has a 4x2 with the 7.3 that he can't get rid of. Don't give up hope yet.

FWIW, I would wait one year before buying the 6.0 PSD. Let them adjust to the learning curve.

Most of the problems are inherent to first-year model engines/vehicles. No matter how many tester vehicles you have, when you turn a new model over to the public that's when you really find out the strengths and, mostly, weaknesses. I'm sure the 2004 models will have fewer bugs.
