Had the Rancho 9000X's installed on my 01 X, have them dialed in at "1", the softest setting. I really don't seem to notice too much of a difference over stock. I mean, the nasty banging is not as bad but I was expecting much more of a difference having read so many posts about how it is a night and day difference. Is it perhaps these need to break in?

Are you in a stock suspension 4x4 there Keith? (I'm referring to springs)

"Nasty banging" may be a hint that something else is amiss ? maybe that's possible ?

My 03 4x4 LIKED the 9000's and I liked that I could bump the air pressure up for betta mpg

Course my stock shocks were NOT up to snuff !

I just put on the Rancho 9000x Shocks as well on the FT and Rear along with a Rancho Steering Stabilizer to replace the OEM. I too have mine dialed in at 1 and I love it. I could tell instantly the ride difference. I have driven it on almost every setting. I took my wife out on a trip and set the suckers to 9 and I swaer she was going to need a heavy duty jogging bra!! I loved it!!

I will keep mine at 1 most of the time. They were a very easy install as well. Took about 1 hour to do all 4 shocks and the ft stab. shock.

If your looking for a Cadillac type ride, you're not going to get it in the Ex. This is a 7500lb truck on a F-250 frame. It is not meant too drive too soft...

Yes - more air to a point helps lessen rolling resistance ! (at least that's what I heard )

I'd rather keep mine aired down under the max psi so I don't lose my fillings

yep, all stock 2001 4x4. Will have to try the other settings to feel the difference. I noticed my mechanic had them set to what I think is the "2" position. According to the Rancho website, the "1" position is straight up - though in that position, it looks like it could also be "9".

Keith since your 4x4 Excursion is all stock I'll have to say with confidence that your front bumpstops are riding pretty close if not on the spring packs which will give you the whiplash/rough ride effect till you get some spring travel implimented.
