I don't want what brand you use, please.

I just want to find out what makes one better than another.

How does one go about choosing which trailer brake controller is best besides just automatically buying a Prodigy.

I got one with my trailer (a 7700GVWR 2-horse, enclosed, dual-axle trailer) and it works but movin git around from the F-150 to the Excursion is a PITA. Mainly due to the simply stupid placement of the plug on the Excursion.

I want to have a permanant mounted controller on both.

"Automatically buy a Prodigy".

The reason for this is that it is an awesome brake controller. I have had it 3 years, moved it from suburban to X. It is fix it and forget. Just plug it in, Balance it 1X and you go. Nothing to do again.

I used the provided plug that comes with the X and wired it to the prodigy and have it installed under the dash. You call the Tekonsha company and tell them what year X and which controller you have and they tell you which wire from the Ford plug gets "spliced" to which wire on the prodigy.

It is incredibly easy. There are other controller where you can spend more $$, have to install wires to pedals..(Jordan brake controller) but for Price, quality, ease of use and installation, you just can not beat the Prodigy.

Go the the Camping World Forum
http://www.campingworld.com/cforum/index.cfm?site=CWI and do the search. IT is a very popular brake controller.

Thanks Dave but that wasn't what I needed.

I KNOW they are a good controller but what seperates a GOOD controller from a BAD controller?

Automatic inertial braking is probably the biggest feature of good over bad. It provides just the right amount of braking whether you're braking under normal conditions or panic-braking. It tends to allow you more control over your load and saves wear on your brakes.
