First of all I'm a very safe driver and have not been involved in an accident in the last 20 years..

I think I read somewhere that the maximum speed limit on the excursion is 95 mph. On a couple of long drives on the excursion, I have exceeded that a few times but backed off the pedal after a few miles or so. On my suburban I have experienced a couple of instances when I exceeded 95 mph where the engine would cut out and lose power and then power would come back at the lower speed limits. The first time it happened to me was very scary. I thought I was gonna crash cause it happened unexpectedly.

So my question is, is there a speed limit for a stock 05 excursion? What would happen if I exceed that speed? Thanks.

yes there is a speed limiter....
and actually it is more of a TIRE limiter since the tires are not speed rated for this heavy a vehicle !

but it is not violent - it is just that it runs out of oomph !!!!

And in case you wondered, most tuners CAN remove that electronic speed limiter in case there's an emergency that you need to go faster than that for a short period.... wink wink...

I can verify that it is 95 mph. And even with my 35's on it runs smooth as glass. Sometimes you gotta find your limits....lol. You can watch the gas needle going down while your doing it though.

With the chip in the F250 I've gotten it up to 120 mph according to the gps. 120 is way to fast for this type of vehicle!

My friend ran his F250 to 140 mph according to his gps!!!

We got the Excursion up to 122 last night on the 65hp setting of the Predator.

It's got a kickass little Datalogger on it that you can see the speed limit after you peg the needle...and it swings back around to 0!!!

Yeppers the predator does remove the speed limiter like a lot of the thuners do...

have HEARD of over 140 mph from some witht he right equipment...
but ya won't catch ME doing that unless it's winter, the tires won't get too hot and shred, or I've got high speed tires on, and Ive got some "brave juice" in me

even then, Whew

Why in the world would you take a vehicle whose gross weight exceeds 8000 lbs. and drive it at speeds like that is beyond me . The Excursion is a great vehicle when used for the purpose it was designed for, but I don't think it was built to drive at those speeds. Just my .02 worth.

Why???

The exact same reason I've taken a 3200 lb Mustang and exceeded 170 mph.

Because I can.

Eddie, these speeds are achieved on a close course with a professional driver. Do not attempt at home.

Hey Eddie,
Agree it's not something I would do every day either....
not because of the vehicle, but because of the NON speed rated tires at the very least

On our trip up to Cordova last nite we never went over 85, but were still passed MANY times....
but I have to admit the new 05 Ex was like it was on rails it was so stable...
especially with the suitcases in the back which lightened the front end just enough to make it glide over the bumps

The wife has planned a tortuous day for all of us tomorrow -
Pink Palace and Mistletoe something or other at the Ag Center....
I told her she got one day for the craft shows and she's making it count !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

doesn't that sound like REAL fun for us manly beast drivers
