Chris, even though your post is almost a month old and since I am a newbie to the forum and enjoying the read on many of these subjects, I am going to weigh in on this subject. Within 48 hours after picking up my truck, I took it in to have a Compustar alarm and autostart system installed. I would not be without it in any vehicle I own!!! That being said, to me it makes no difference who the manufacturer is as long as it is a two-way system and can alert me that something has happened to my vehicle.
I credit my husband for finding this option - he is constantly concerned with my personal well-being. We live in the tundra of Minnesota and I very seldon don a coat unless I absolutely have to, so I like knowing that I can step into a warm vehicle in the sub-zero temps that we often get. But more than that, since I travel on business so much, I like knowing that my truck will alert me if something happens to it!!! I also travel with a guardian dog which makes it more critical that I know if my vehicle has been compromised in some manner as my dog is in my vehicle when she is not with me.
My X came with, in our estimation, a less than adequate entry alarm system. We have put the Compustar system in our last 4 vehicles and have loved them and the installation folks love me for the number of people they see as new customers as a result. Whatever the system you choose, I urge you to get one that has a two-way system that has the autostart capability, a valet setting so you can disable the alarm sounding system if you take it to the dealership or have someone park it for you, and a panic alert option. Mine is also programmed that once I start my vehicle, I step on the brake and my doors lock automatically even though the Ford system locks the doors shortly after I am in gear and driving down the road. My insurance company did acknowledge the system in the rate that we go for insurance, so there is some small, immediate payback. Let us all know what you ultimately decided to do!!
