Hey guys, long time lurker but never really posted. My 2000 X has been towed 3 times in the last month. 1st it was the CPS, then it ran good...for a week, then it was a exhaust backpressure sensor or something and they replace the oil pressure regulator. Then it ran for 2 weeks. Would not start last night,I did get it to start with starting fluid (I know, not good) but it will not start without it now and its at the shop waiting to be looked at. Its got 123k on it so nothing is covered. Every time it failed has been after I have driven it all day (and want to leave again) and its always in my driveway (lucky I guess), which is on a hill. Now I'm sure its just plain wierd that its in my driveway all 3 times with the front end facing uphill. I guess I"m going to search around on the sites today since I"m stuck at home with no ride! Any info or suggestions would be great, thanks--Kyle |

Kyle,
Welcome aboard. Sounds like an interesting problem. A few questions for ya:
1.) How's the charge on the batteries? From what I gather in your post, the starter's working, for whatever reason the engine is just not firing up. Correct?
2.) Is your "wait to start" light flickering, dim, or misbehaving at all? What happens if you completely bypass the "wait to start" light and immediately try starting it?
3.) Is yours a limited X? The PATS system may be screwing with you. Does the red "ALARM" light flash repeatedly in the dash (in the gauge cluster, somewhere)? The fact that you got it started with ether tells me that it's probably not the PATS system but wanted to just rule out some variables.
4.) After you got it started with ether -- how did it run? Did the idle smooth out or was it running rough?
5.) Performance-wise...any big problems with acceleration, power, etc when it actually does run? Again, want to rule out variables...just making sure it's not bad fuel if it runs fine after it starts.

Hey kgm,
Welcome!! Great site here. Many knowledgeable members here who are willing to help. As for your excursion, are you the original owner? What kind of mods (if any) have you done? Have you tried getting someone to give you a jumpstart? If those are the original batteries, they may not have enough cranking amps left to get you started. How much fuel is in your tank? If you're on an incline, maybe the intake pickup line is sucking air if your tank is low on fuel( not sure if this is possible) Just food for thought. Hopefully other members will chime in with their input/suggestions. Good luck and keep us posted and let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the input guys. The batteries are about a year old (from what I was told), I don't know what the charge is on them as of now. The starter is working, the engine will not fire up without the use of ether. The "wait to start" signal has no problems, I have bypassed it and just started it but to no luck. It is a limited X but I don't think the alarm signal light ever came on when starting it. Once I got it started it ran fine, idle was good. In fact I got it started then couldn't get a ride back from the shop so I had to wait a few hours and got it started with ether again and it started, idled fine and it ran fine to the shop. Performance wise I'd say it's good. I do a lot of traveling, racing dirt bikes all over the east coast and I have got some bad fuel before, the check engine light comes on for the rest of the day then goes off the next morning when I start back up, this has never really concerned me before and it never affected performance as far as I could tell. I am the 2nd owner, got it with 92k on it (in March 2005), it has a 60hp chip in it and a K&N style filter and air box, other than that its stock. The fuel level was about a quarter tank, I did drift it onto the flat road to try to start it all 3 times but it never worked. Its still at the shop, I never got a call from them today so I'm wondering just how much this is going to cost or if they are waiting for parts, I'll keep ya updated, thanks for the response, see ya--Kyle |

hey guys, thanks again for all the input, I will get over to the superduty site when I get a chance and see what they think. The problem ended up being the Injector control pressure sensor and a $200 bill, I guess thats not to bad, thanks again! |

Who did the work? If it was your friendly Ford dealer you should demand your money back for the repair. They brag about all the updated training and equipment they have. With that said, how come so many people have bad experiances at there dealerships? I'm in a dispute now, but the second dealer I chose to tow my X to was a truck shop only. 10 days at the first dealer with a $755.00 bill, they refused warranty because of useing a tuner. 1.5hrs. at the second dealer and a $100.00 deductable for a CPS failure. |

Hey kgm,
Did you get the issue resolved? If your X is like mine, you have got an analog rpm gauge and no tranny temp gauge. Here is a quick way to check the cps- on long cranks, the rpm needle should bounce maybe 100 rpm or so. If it does not your cps is shot. I've also read other posts where others have experienced problems with the cps acting up only when the engine gets up to operating temps. I've also read posts where the fix turned out to be as simple as an oil change (WTF)! At any rate, I hope you got the problem solved and are motoring again. If not, let us know.
