This is weird! I have an 01 PSD w/ 66,000. When I I have the Air Conditioning running and click the

four wheel drive on, the AC switches to defrost?

Hi Mark,

Although I don't have a 4x4, I believe the hubs are controlled by a vacuum line. A vacuum also controls a/c vent selection. There is a group of lines on the passenger side just below the glove box that controls your vents. They may be loose or leaking and causing the problem. Is the only time you see this is switching into 4-wheel drive? If there is a problem with your hubs, it may fall under the 5year/100,000 mile warranty. I hope this helps. I'm sure other members will chime in who are a little more knowledgeable on the subject.

Unfortunately the hubs do not fall under your your 5 year 100k warranty just the engine is covered. You may have a vaccum leak somewhere in the system causing your defrost only airflow. it may also be caused by the electric vacuum pump becoming weak. When you do switch into 4wd do the hubs fully engage? They are prone to leakage at the knuckles. If the leak is bad enough the hubs wont engage. I dont see in the vacuum schematic that there is a one way valve in the line to or out of the pvh solenoid. Thats the solenoid that sends vacuum to the hubs once switched into 4 wheel drive. Its located at the inner rh fender between your batt. and starter relay. If you have a manual vacuum pump(like a vacula) you can figure out where the leak is by pulling a vacuum at each knuckle where the vacuum lines hook up and see if one bleeds off. Hope this helps.
