Ok, finally dug into the passenger door to see why when you open the door the interior lights don't come on and the door ajar light doesn't activate. Turns out there is a connector disconnected in there.
On the door lock actuator assembly, there is 2 connectors. One is hooked up, which I'm assuming is the actuator and the other one (closest to the outside door edge and hard to get to) is not connected. When I plugged it in the interior lights stay on no matter what (door open, closed, etc).
So, I'm assuming the door switch is bad, correct?? Since that door actuator acts up sometimes I'm thinking I should just replace both. I know that I can go aftermarket with the actuator, but what about the door switch? If not, anyone have a OEM part # for it (2000 Ex Limited)?
Also, is it hard to change out that switch? Any instructions? |

Since the door-ajar switch was unplugged, a previous owner obviously had trouble with it, and took the easy way out. I don't have the part number for the door ajar switch handy, but they're not too expensive if you've got a "friend" at the dealer's parts counter ... about $9 or $10 each. Just make certain that when you pick up the part, it's wrapped in a plastic bag, and does not come in a little cardnoard box. The bag-wrapped switches are the newer ones, while the boxed switches are the old troublesome units. I replaced all 6 switches on mine, and didn't know at the time to avoid the boxed units. I've subsequently had trouble with one of them.
If you haven't had any problems with the lock actuators, I'd leave 'em alone. They will give decent service if you activate them on a regular basis.
I've since installed a row of toggle switches to disable the 4 circuits controlling the 6 switches. Each front door is on its own circuit, the pair of rear doors is on one circuit, and the pair of switches in the liftgate is on a fourth circuit.
Some folks will say to dowse 'em with WD40, but many folks have found that to be a temporary fix. On the other hand, others have gotten a good deal of service from WD40. I have an electronic copy from the factory service manual on how to remove the switches from the latch mechanism. And yes, ya' gotta' be somewhat of a contortionist to get one out. |
