Latest update on the Banks mods. Had a real scare here for few days. The EX has been leaking fluid. A friend called me to let me know I left a large puddle in his driveway. Our first thought was that the trans drain plug was the culpret. When that didn't pan out, we feared the worst and inspected the torque converter. Dry as a bone. Whew!! Okay, so we start it up and wait until all warms up. Then roommate yells over the noise of the 7.3 to shut it down. He had found the problem. The Banks trans temp probe fitting was loose and leaking. He said when he installed it he was afraid of over tightening it. Brass fitting into aluminum housing.] Now it seemed loose. He tightened it up and the leak had stopped. I feared I was in for a major repair job. No charge this time.

On the Six Gun did you opt for the egt limiter option? I'm looking at adding one to my 2001 PSD to help pull a large RV trailer and need the extra umph!
How hard was it to install and setup?

Tad,
I'm not sure just what you mean. EGT limiter option. The 6 Gun for the 7.3 is a 2" round gauge like thing that fits in the "A" pillar pod. You get to set the limit light at what-ever EGT you want. You can also set the limit light for the trans temp too if you have a secondary gauge. And thirdly, you can set the limit light for the boost value.I have my boost value at 25 psi and my EGT at 1250. You can also have the gauge monitor one item all the time. I have mine showing the EGT. Seeiing as I also have a second trans temp gauge, I don't need to monitor that through the 6 Gun.

I forgot to add that I have a friend who is a perfectionist when it comes to these things He likes to make the installation appear to look like a factory job or not to show at all. The only thing that shows on my EX is the added "A" pillar with the 6Gun and trans temp gauge. When you open the hood, you don't see anything new. We opted to install the EGT sensor in the manifold instead of on the downpipe. You get a more accurate reading that way. But, in our case it involved removing the driver's side exhaust manifold. We didn't want to take the chance of any metal filings getting injested in the turbo. We took our time with the install. I have a second car so it didn't matter if we did't finish the first day. We only had a couple little things left over to do. We also installed the 'TransCommand' unit. It seems to work well too. The EX is sooo much fun to drive now.

Sounds like you've got the setup I want. I'm going the same route and will add a new exhaust as well. Not sure which way to go on the tranny. I know there are two schools of thought. One is the trans command and the other is a new valve body. Any input out there from owners that pull an 8K - 9K trailer?
Also, I just got the Ex back from the dealer. Had a complete tranny service performed (OUCH!). About $300 for the full flush and filter change. They told me it needs to be done about every 40K. I've looked around and most of the tranny shops don't have the ability to completly flush the system including the torgue converter. Is there any way to add an additional filter to the tranny that will prolong the life or at least extend the service interval? |

Oh and Michael,
I had a K&N filter and a budy of mine talked me into changing it out for the Ford Extreme duty filter upgrade. He worked for Ford's Heavy Truck Division as an engineer. If you have any problems with the engine and go for repair they will automatically void your warranty. Not only that, but he showed me Ford lab reports and the difference in filtration between the two are striking. He tells me air quality is critical to the logevity of these diesels.
Thanks,

I've got a similar set-up and my boat weighs in right at 9000lb. I added the Sonnax tricumulator kit to the tranny... best $50's I've spent. As for trany services, it takes less than 20 minutes to do a complete flush yourself w/o any special tools. All you need is 10' of clear hose and about 22Qt. of new fluid.

The sonnax is a shift kit . I ordered mine from blackcloud diesel but almost all of the online vendors carry it.
There is a very simple procedure for changing the tranny fluid that flushes the T/C and cooler at the same time. I'll pm you a link to it.
