Wed My Ex blew the #3 plug. I just had a tune up @ my local dealer (Hanson Ford) back on the 28th of July. When it blew I was 250 miles from home as my wife's father had passed on the 6th. I talked to my local dealer back here @ home and was told this is a 'known" problem that Ford has recongised and asked where I was, I told him I was out of town in Minot (ND). He sugested I get with the local dealer and ask them about a PO7. So my Ex was towed to Westle Ford and yes they comfirmed it was a blown plug but stated that they may not be able to do the PO7. The service manager there said I would have to come back in the AM and hopefully have a solution getting this fixed ( they were offically closed @ this time).
Well I showed up @ 8am the next morning (this is the day of Dad's funeral) I am told that he ( the service manager) talked to his Manager and was told that they (Westle Ford) could not due the PO7 (evidently based on the fact they are about to be audited by Ford) And that I should contact my dealer and see if they would be willing to do the PO7 to get my Ex fixed. Which I did and my service manager @ Hansen Ford here in Grand Forks ND talked with his manager and told him what happened and said yes they would do the PO7 on it and get my Ex fixed... I just need to get it to them. Well the Westle service manager contacted a towing company for me and worked out a "deal"
400.oo for the tow covering 250miles. the Towing company informs me they do not have a current contract with my dealer back in Grand Forks, so I would have to pay up front before they would even tow it to Grand Forks.... I told them OK I would get back with them in the morning as right now I have a funeral to deal with.
Today I talked with a buddy back here @ Grand Forks and he was coming to get the family and I and was bringing his trailer to tow the Ex home to save me some $.... I called the towing company to let them know this and they tell me my Ex is already back here in Grand Forks ( I hadn't finalized the $ side with them yet) I guess they got a PO from my dealer here and will now have to pay my dealer 350.oo for the tow (under the PO7, Ford will pay only up to 50.oo toeards towing) and this is on top of the 475 I have to pay for my portion of this PO7, then Ford covers the rest and once everything is done I will have a 3yr/36K powertrain warranty.
Sorry for the long post.... I'm just a little POed about getting screwed by Westle Ford and Olsen/ Dakota Wrecking in Minot, ND My buddy still ended up rescueing the Wife and Kids and I.... I'm just frustated as to why a Ford dealer couldn't do this! and this hole thing costing me more money than it should of! |

Darn JD--sounds like you got an attitude problem son. You're supposed to smile and say thank you when you get screwed! I hate this "Yes, we know it's a problem and a design flaw but too bad!" Unless I am mistakem, the triton has aluminum heads. The threads get weakened after a spark plug change and thus a blow out. I had a 94 Crown Vic do the same thing. They gave me the head price-- --so one of the guys said I should put a Helicoil in it. I put it in myself--in the dealer service lot. It ran well--but I traded it soon afterwards. I have 75K no my 01X. I have the Extended warranty 7yr/10000k mile. Might be a good idea to get them to change them so they can rebuild my engine for the $100 deductible.
Good luck!
David

This company has a kit that will allow you to make a abolutely permanent proper and perfect repair. A little pricy for the kit, @ 400, but you can do all of the plugs in your engine with it, and then sell the kit for someone else to do theirs. Inserts are about $5 per hole. I have used mine to do all the plug holes in a ford 4.6 liter, and 2 ford 5.4's.
You can order these repair kits from the factory. Just call the number that is on the website. They will get you EXACTLY what you need for your installation.
DAMN sight better than helicoils. Remember to use plenty of grease on thye reamer and tap, clean them after 3 to 5 turns, and degrease everything before installing the insert. Is done in the car. Can be done by hand, but a air ratchet really helps with the reamer. (use low psi)

I hate that ford gets this reputation, all new motors have problems, how many THOUSANDS of Triton motors are out there and dont have problems, I have a 5.4 in my 97 E350 and its clocked 166K and never had a problem, so why is it that Ford cant fix this problem, they should stand behind their products.. I know, i know, I should have got a V8 power stroke, but my G/F didnt like the noise, but I love the V10 and I pray that I dont have any problems like this, I will keep all my fingers and toes crossed, I wish you the best on all the V10s out there...
It really is all about size!!!!!! |
