went to get my tires rotated on the 05 Excursion and forgot to chk what the lug nuts should be set at...
was looking at the new locking lug nuts on it and it HAS the torque stamped on the locking ring !!!!
200 nm and 150 lbft
looks like EXPENSIVE little lug nuts with the locking indentions in both the wheel and the nut, then the free spinning section mated to the nut !!!!
Cool !

Check your owners manual there John? It should be 165 lbs.

Apparently not on an 05
P 146 of the manual says 150 lbft just like on the lug nut itself....
these are different nuts and wheels...
little "stars" on the wheel around the bolt hole and on the face of the two piece nut !

I looked at the 2005 Excursion Workshop Manual which is what the Ford Dealer Service Techs use at the dealerships and it states "Torque Specifications" 8-Lug M14 wheel bolts 165 ib-ft which is the same for the 2005 single wheel SuperDuties. If you take the Excursion to the dealer for a rotation they'll torque em to 165 per the workshop manual.
| Quote: | | Advise the customer that the wheel nuts need to be retightened at 800 km (500 miles) after wheel change or any other time the wheel nuts have been loosened. This is required to permit the wheel clamping system to seat correctly so that the wheel nuts will hold a uniform clamp load and remain fully tightened. |

Wonder which one is right then ?
It IS a much different connection between the wheel and nut, and it is a two piece nut, very unlike either my 02 and 03....
wonder why the nut is stamped 150 lbft then ?

I doubt it'll be possible but can you get a couple photos of this new series M14 wheel nut and add it to your album here or upload it as an attachment at SDD?
I'd like to check it out as it might be better hardware than on our 02

I sure had a fight on my hands when I told the local dealer to tighten my lug nuts 165 last year. They had no idea it was so high. They insisted it was 95. I argued and argued the point and told them to look it up on their computer. Hehehe, they came back to me later and said I was right. I told them "well, yea. Ford sent me an addendum to my owners manual stating such."

The tech probably got confused with an Escort at 95 ft-lbs
