I have a 2000 4x4 limited. I have started thinking of modifying bits and pieces to enhance capability off road. I'd like to try and find out info on what existing stock parts are on the truck now, such as front and rear end makes. I've been told that the front end could possibly be Dana 50 or 60 make where the rear end would be a Ford make. I was hoping for Dana all the way around. Anyone have any information on this? Greatly appreciate your time.

Your 2000 X wears a Dnan 50 up front and a Sterling 10.5 out back.

The Sterling is a stout unit but finding aftermarket parts can be a bit harder.

The D50 is okay and more than enough for the Excursion in stock trim. The axle shafts are the weakest link when it comes to large tire and wheel combos that are "4-wheeled" hard.

Late in '02 Dana 60s were put on Excursions and now all 03's wear them. They are an excellent axle.

Sincerely appreciate your time. You mentioned Dana 60's on the newer X's.
Is this front and rear?, and how hard would it be to replace my existing,
especially my rear, if this is possible. Again, thanks for your time.
