OK, my wife parallel parked a bit far from the curb, and someone driving by clipped it.
The glass shattered and flew off the frame. The frame pivoted forward, and the flying glass nicked up the fender a tiny bit, but the frame itself was fine. I picked up the broken piece off the ground, and we headed home.
Called the local Ford dealer, and ordered up the glass only (electric adjustable and heated by the way, maybe they all are?). I was expecting $200, but was told the glass itself was about $50. With the bottle of touch up paint, I owed the dealer $67.50.
So, I am standing in the Ford dealer's parking lot, got all the directions out, and I am trying to descipher how to attach the new glass to the frame. Salesman comes out, "Whatcha doin?" "I am replacing the broken mirror." I'm thinking DUH, what does it LOOK like I'm doing?
Him: "We never just replace the glass, it takes too long, it's way too difficult. We replace the whole frame as well."
Me: "Yes, well, the mirror was $50, how much is the whole frame?"
Him: "About $210 plus labor."
Me: "I like $50 better than $300. How about you?"
He shut up and slinked away.
Anyway, it took me about 30 minutes of doing, but it really wasn't that hard.
Don't let the parts guy take you for a ride.

I had the same problem with my '93 Chevy Blazer [full size] and the glass cost $19 and just snapped in place. The price for the complete mirror assembly would have been $230.
