I need to change the plugs on my 2000 V10. It has 74k miles. I figure with the 4.30 LS rear, I must be close to the equivalent of 100k in a 3.73. Anyway, The dealer stressed the fact that I should only use the Motorcraft plugs. I assume he owns Ford stock and is only concerner with retirement. Does anyone know why I should only use the Motorcraft part? I was going to spring for the Bosch +4
plugs. A long time ago, I had a great experience with the Splitfireplugs in a BMW. They made a noticable difference. The Bosch +4 looks like the same concept. Anyone have an opinion on this, good or bad?
Thanks |

Many folks consider the Motorcraft plugs the optimum plug fro the V10. I've heard many cases of the +4s making the truck run like crap.
Look at it this way...The MC ones took you to 74K without any problems, right? Why tempt fate?
Check out the V10 forum over at www.ford-trucks.com for the many, many threads on sparkplugs.
One thing though...when you buy new Motorcraft plugs specify the plugs for an 03+ V10. The thread count is different. It is a better plug.

Ken, Are you sure the spark plugs have a different thread count? I thought that it's the heads that have the problem. The '03 and newer heads have more threads for the plugs to engage, but the plugs have the same number of threads.

The plug on the right is the newer style.

if you are interested i have a set of the bosch plus 2's that i bought and then took out. i drove on them for about half a mile. the reason i did this is because i had a bad sputter after i changed the plugs to cheapies. i thought it was the plugs so i bought the platinums and tried them. still no luck. i ended up buying the motorcraft ones but that still didnt help. turns out it was the number 3 coil. got ir replaced and viola!! no sputter. anyway, now im stuck with these plugs ( 10 of them!!!) at $14 a pair canadian. make me an offer of any amount and they are yours. i just cant justify having them in my center console. clarence |
