Does anyone have any idea why my remotes wont work untill i push one of the buttons on my door or right after I shut off the truck? If I go outside and push a button on my door my remotes will work until I let the truck sit for 1 minute without doing anything. If I keep locking and unlocking the doors with the remote it will continue to work again till it sits undisturbed for about a minute. Then I have to push the button on the door again to "wake up" the remote system. Another wierd thing was that when Ford read my code for the keypad on the door it came up as 9 11 9 11 9 I am still looking for the 11 button ;)

Any help would be appreaciated...

Thanks!!

I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks then in the drink with the boat on the rocks.... But either way theres gonna be a good story!!!

Sounds like the VSM (Vehicle Security Module) is going askew.

Quote:
The vehicle security module controls the power door lock system. The vehicle security module monitors the door lock/unlock switch inputs from the interior door lock switches. When the vehicle security module receives an unlock/lock command from any door lock control switch, the vehicle security module will activate the door lock actuators. The vehicle security module also controls the following remote lock/unlock features:

remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter lock/unlock
panic alarm
keyless entry keypad

By the way what year is your Excursion?

Thanks!

The VSM should be a stand alone unit located behind the radio and heater controls.

To access it you have to remove the lower center dash trim panel which is the utility one with two screws, the slide out cup holder has to be removed(2 or 4 screws) then the center finish panel which is held on by four screws, disconnect the cig lighter harness plug then the finish panel will be free.

The information is coming from the 2002 Workshop Manual.

I just got off the phone with Ford Parts and they have no listing for a V.S.M.

I am going to try another dealership I guess...The parts guy seems to think its part of the GEM. $225 for a new GEM but I am almost forced to let them install it since they will need to program my keys to it before my truck will run.

Including myself and the stealers are "thinking" what could be but the only way to be 100% sure is to have a code scanner hooked up to see what it'll pull out.

I'm unsure if Autozone stores provide that free service.

The stealer should have done a full diagnostic trouble code scan and not just for the keypad code.

The workshop manual also stated changing the battery so no harm done

Changed battery and even tried a new remote. The dealer says they have to start testing components and the wires that connect everything. At $80 an hour I would rather start changing components. GEM $225 and the RKE reciever at $125. They hooked up the scanner and everything looked ok with the exception of the door unlock code of 9-11-9-11-9 they claim they have never seen anything kike that. But by using the data logging option they were able to find the factory unlock code.

Thanks Again!!
