Sometime around April of 2006, a new “GEN-III” radius-rod kit will be offered that will replace both the GEN-I and GEN-II kits. The GEN-III will fit ALL applications, such as early-2000 models with the catty-wompass rear brake caliper arrangement, as well as any model having air-bag suspension assist systems. Applications will still be limited to Excursions with no more than 4-1/2” of lift.
The GEN-III will be of the same basic configuration as the GEN-II kit, but its axle-clamp has been redesigned to clear the OEM metal bump-stops mounted within the spring-stacks. This means the metal bump-stops will not require trimming as was the case with the GEN-II design. This also means aftermarket air-bag systems that attach to those metal bump-stops can be used in concert with the GEN-III radius-rods.
The GEN-III design will allow me to build up some inventory so buyers will not have to wait three to five weeks before their kit is shipped. I can build up an inventory of GEN-III kits, with the bulk of them pre-sized to fit standard-height (not lifted) Excursions. The rest will be built with extra length to suit Excursions with as much as 4-1/2” of lift, and will include guidelines for trimming the rod-arms to the correct length depending on the amount of lift installed.
The GEN-II kits will be discontinued upon release of the GEN-III design. The GEN-I kits will be offered for a little while longer because I have some material left over that’s used only for building those kits. In order to unload this surplus material, I’ll need to push the GEN-I kits out the door. Both kits perform equally well, and other than price, neither has any mechanical advantage over the other. So, if your Excursion is not an early-2000 model, the GEN-I kit will provide a great bargain, and will continue to be offered until its material is depleted.
NOTE - These GEN-III radius-rods are NOT the proposed weld-on type discussed in another thread. The weld-on style will probably be designated GEN-IV once they're available. |
