My last tank netted me 14.95MPG. I did some off-roading (yes off-roading in a 2wd ) and normal island driving. I'm really surprised!

So far (since 5K miles) this truck has bettered the 03 4x4 Expedition that it replaced by 1mpg. The efficiency of this engine really astounds me.

I don't expect it to stay that way once I get the 4.30s installed next week.

Just got back from a 5000 mile vacation in the X towing the 8500 lb travel trailer and toting four people. Our 2000 V-10 ltd. returned a 10.5 mpg 420 mile tank at 65 mph after our last fillup. Helping was a 25 mph wind out of the south (and at outr backs) that warmed Chicago up to 60 degrees on a mid January day

I get that kind of mileage unhooked and unloaded at 75 mph

Wow.. .What type of fuel do you use? I too have a 2005 V10 (Job 2 build) with the 3.73''s and I have never had a trip of any length get above 13.1 with the average around 12.5 to 12.6

In traffic I only get about 11.5.. I do have 285/75/16 TA All Terrain tires inflated to 55 psi if that makes any difference & I have 18,000 miles on the motor..

Maybe your tires are throwing off your calculations?

Mine is a 2WD. That may make a bit of difference.

The huge tailwind is surely responsible for the 10.5, just as the huge headwind was responsible for a 7.3 mpg average heading south through Indiana on I65 to start the trip. Couldn't keep the damn thing away from 3000 RPMs that morning. We averaged about 8.5 for the entire trip.

In Florida, when we unhooked it on that same trip, we got a 15.6 at a steady 55, no wind issue and entirely flat ground. Color me impressed

I have wondered about the tire calculation issue as well. My X is also a 2WD. I think I will have 4 WD drive envy until I get a new one or get a lift for this one.

4 wheel drive only gets you stuck further down the trail.
