I removed the 3rd row seat and built a platform 10 inches above the floor for my dog and his bed. Underneath I have two of those long plastic boxes, made to go under beds in the home, to carry all my "stuff". The dog has a much better view and I can see him whenever I need to from the driver's seat. My question is, has anyone moved the 2nd row seat back? As it is, the legroom there is pretty tight, I'd like to move it back 6" to 10" if possible.

"jefflana" (he sometimes posts over at the FTE forum) has done such a mod. He had a limousine shop in NYC move it for him. He also had the 3rd row seat moved aft, but that meant dropping the fuel tank to remount (weld) the mounting sockets in their new location. Shoulder harness mounts had to be moved, too, along with making the associated modifications to the interior plastic panels. It's not a small job by any means.
PS - "jefflana" was also the very first person to buy a set of my radius-rods. |

Mike,
Do you have any pics we can see? I was think of just that type of config for my X, with the 2 dogs and all, but thought of adding rails that would allow pull out of the storage bay. The only prob with that idea is that I would have to "unhook" the rear door stops to open all the way to allow the rails to slide out...

Sorry, no photos....yet. I'll see what I can do this weekend. By the time I get home from work it's too dark for photos. Basically, what I have is a one inch platform supported on the front by a solid wall of more of the same plywood and 2"X4" X 10" legs in the middle of the long sides and at the rear. This is all covered with carpet the same color as the OEM. It came from Home Depot [indoor/outdoor] and therefore has a ribbed pattern to it. That doesn't bother me. I also have short leashes [clips at both ends] that attach to the floor hooks at one end and the dogs collar on the other. That keeps him in the back. I made sure the legs of the platform were not too long so as to prevent me from putting dog crates or wire cages inside. They just barely fit, but that is what I wanted. The storage boxes are the ones at Home Depot made to store stuff under YOUR bed in the house. The small wheels recessed into them make it easier to slide the boxes in and out. The solid wall at the front of the platform keeps these boxes from sliding forward. Everything can be pulled out in a mattere of moments so I can put the 3rd row seat back in. I've only had to do that once or twice in 3 years. It also makes it easier to take all my "stuff" out of the truck in the event I have to leave it at the dealership. I store the folding chairs that came in the mail after I bought the truck between the 2nd row seat and the front face of the platform.
