Anyone have this problem? It usually happens on rough road. The display and sound usually go out, but on the way in to work this morning the display went out but the sound stayed. Usually a hard nock on the dash with my palm will fix it. I wonder if it is the wiring harness connection or wiring inside the radio?

It sounds like something is loose behind the dash/radio. I assume you can take the dash off to inspect or remove the radio, but I don't know how. On my 1991 F150 the plastic trim around the radio and A/C just popped off. The X is probably similar. Find a teenager with a loud stereo somewhere. They'll know how to fix it.

I would be carefull about letting a deaf loud stereo kid play with your radio.
It could be a crappy wire connection or it could be a wiring or soldering problem inside the radio itself. the latter is more likely.

You can pull the radio by releasing the retaining clips. These are accesed thru the 4 holes on the front of the radio. You release all four clips at the same time and pull the radio straight out. Two pieces of coat hanger shaped like "U"s will do the trick.

The rest is easy.
