I went out to the truck last night and opened my back door before I unlocked the truck. I'm not sure how long it's been like this but it worries me with all that I have back there.
Has anyone replaced the lock actulator in there back door? I'm going to take a look today and see what it takes. If anyone has done this please post some tips. Thanks, Bill

I have not, but I will say that when I was shopping around for Ex's I found that 75% of the 7 trucks I looked at had non working locks on the back hatch.
I tried to check mine at least once a week |

I also have noticed that my rear door doesn't lock most of the time, using the remote. While on a trip I make sure I lock it manually (with the key).
Let us know if you find a fix.
Thanks,
Shannon

Alright, I got it out now here's the write up for everyone else. An easy one to do, first remove your handle ( 2 torx 30 bolts) then remove the plastic cover ( nothing but clips). Remove the wire plug, reach in through the top hole and push down on a clip holding it in and pull it towards you. Comes right out. It's part #F81B-25218B21 I've added pics in the gallery of what it looks like.

Ok so a few calls around gets me a price of 55 bucks. Anuone have a better place to look? I'm not in too much of a hurry. I'm in my truck all day and I park with the rear doors up against the garage. Plus if anyone can lift my 400 pound speaker box out of the back they can have it

Hey Bill,
Check out Powerstrokeshop.com or 1stfordparts.com. They should have the actuator at a cost less than that of the dealer. I've bought from them several times and prices for the items were half of what the dealer charged. Hope this helps.

I found it a few bucks cheaper but not enough to make me smile. I'll work over my parts guy at the dealership for a better price today when I get there. Thanks for the links, bookmarked for later

I was able to free my lock actuator by squirting WD40 into it where the arm enters the housing. Lasted about six months, and it quit working again. This time I replaced it as was mentioned in one of the earlier posts. I now check all my doors periodically as I frequently carry some valuable tools and other items inside. |

I removed mine this afternoon. My only regret was I did it wrong and snapped the front tab. It was working intermittently anyway. Until I get a new one I'll manually lock and unlock the back which may not be a bad thing |

This may be too little too late, but, all I do when it quits working is to manually lock and unlock it about five time and it's good to go for about another month or so.
