Hello,

I have been lurking for a while. I have read everything I can about tire selection. I have decided to go with a set of these tires size 285/75RR16 D. There seem to be much discussion on load rating concerning the X. I will be towing a 5k lb. boat during the summer. The rest of the time I just commute and take several road trips. Will I be ok with this tire in a D? I read somewhere they were coming out with an E, but I have not been able to find it.

I put Michelin LTX M/Ss on my previous X and loved them. I wanted to put a little more aggressive tread and larger size on my new to me 2004.

Thanks

Larry

I'm running the D-rated REVO 285's... and I pull a 10K pound trailer on a regular basis. These tires are rated for a max load of 3305 pounds, times four is 13220 pounds max load. This is more than enough for a 8000 pound vehicle plus the load from the trailer.

If you look at your Michelin LTX M/S... the D-rated 265's have a max load of 2601 per tire (10,400 total) while the E-rated are 3,415 per tire (13,660 total). So the D-rated 285s have a max load that is only 400 pounds (3%) less than the E-rated 265's.

So go with the REVO's..... you'll love them!

Thanks to everyone for their advise! I ordered a set of 285 Revos this morning from TireRack.

Next question...

What tire pressure do you recommend?

I saw someone over at FTE recommended max pressure (65lbs. right?)

That may be a bit too much depending on the weight of your truck. I say start with 50F 55R and watch the tire wear. Just my .02 though.

Do the 285 tires fit on the stock 16" rim pretty good? Anyone evern seen a better price per tire then what tirerack offers ($167.00)?

Be careful about the per-tire price. When I bought my REVOs, I checked three places, including TireRack. When I factored in shipping charges, the highest per-tire price turned out to be the best deal. It depends on how close you are to their warehouse. I ended up getting mine from TireSavings.com because their warehouse is in Mass. I don't remember the per-tire price, but they were $715 delivered to my door. The $167 price from TireRack would be $745 to my door.

I'm also looking at a set of Revos. Best price for me so far is at Costco - $774 "out the door" for the 265's in LR "E". That includes mounting, balancing. lifetime rotation, nitrogen fill, used tire disposal etc. I'm also told that Costco uses a torque wrench on your wheels. Discount tire wanted $890 out the door for the same tire! So if you are near a Costco, you might want to check them out. Membership is $45 per year.

Oh, and I just saved $240 annually by switching to Costco auto insurance, which is through Amerivest, formerly American Express Financial.

When I had my Firestones replaced on the recall, the tire dealer let me upgrade to the REVOS for a little over a $100. I much prfer the REVOS over the Firestones they replaced.
