Greetings everyone,

Finally got some spare time on my hands, weather was great, so I decided to flush out the cooling system and fill it with the Evans NPG coolant. Took about 4 hours from start to finish and the block drain on the passenger side was a PITA to get to; had to remove the starter to even get a good look at it. Installed new upper/lower radiator hoses and changed out coolant filter. I am surprised that I am still getting some grit/sand out of these filters, although it was roughly 3000 miles since my last filter change. All in all, not too bad of a job to do. Hope the things I've read about this coolant and the info from Bob Riley over at dieselsitetoo.com are true. Anxious to see what, if any, improvements will be had from this.

Hey Cleveland jim,

Improved fuel economy, reduces corrosion, engine runs quieter, no boiling point or cooling system failure. These are just a few items listed on dieselsitetoo.com and the info that comes with the coolant. So far, I've noticed a hotter running engine. It's too early to tell if I've gained any mpg from this. But if I don't the other benefits will offset it.

Hey Eddie!!
How about an update on the Evans coolant change?? How many gallons did you need?
Did you drill the pressure cap??

Hey Godfather,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. So far I am pleased with the switch over to Evans coolant.
If for nothing else than the fact that I don't have to worry about checking the Silicate levels every so often. During the change over, changed both upper and lower radiator hoses, installed new coolant filter, and flushed the system really good, also drilled a hole in degas bottle cap to keep system depressurized. Has worked really well. The analog guage in the instrument cluster shows it running hotter than before. The true test of the performance of the stuff will be seen this summer when the temps are in the 90s and 100s on a regular basis. . When I did the change I used about 6.5 gallons, and I ordered 8. A couple of weeks after the change, I checked the coolant level and topped of the reservoir with about 3/4 of a gallon after all the water had boiled off. As for mpg gain/loss, mine stayed about the same as before.

Just a thought for everyone changing their coolant on a 7.2.
This is a good time to change out the upper hose to a dual alternator
hose that does not go through the belt . The Ford part number is F81Z-8260-CA.
Can't believe Ford ran the hose through the belt to begin with.
