I have a 2002 EX Limited with the Premium Sound System. The one with the 6 CD changer in the dash. I don't play CD's much but yesterday I removed the CD in slot 6 and it worked fine. This AM I tried to replace the CD in slot 5 and now I get a CD ERROR message on the screen. I can't play any of the 6 or even eject any of them. When I select #5 it says there is no CD there. Has anyone else had this problem. The truck has only 40,000 miles on it. I have the extended warranty but apparently the stereo is NOT covered. I took the EX to "Al & Ed's" [chain of stores that install stereos etc, here in So. Calif.] and they said "oh, those OEM stereos only last a couple of years. For what they cost, they should last a lot longer than that.

Yep! Have the same problem with mine. If you check the older posts, it seams there's a rubber band that moves things up & down & ours has stretched a bit. So do you want to replace it with a brand new full blown system, Chance buying another from ebay, remove & open it up to see if you can replace that rubber band, or do it the cheap way????? If you have ever bought a spool of blank cd's or dvd's, there's a plastic protector on top that looks just like a cd. Go out to you truck & try to eject the stuck cd. Once the door opens, stick the plastic pursuader in part way and it will usually slide the stuck one out right underneath it. You may need to lift the back ( the end in your hand )& pull gently. I don't change my cd's everytime I get in the truck, so its really not a big hassle. Let us know if you decide to try the sugury route. I may do it some day yet.

Thanks. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to get the blank. We have lots of those at work. I'll just grab a couple. I seldom change my CD's too.
Thanks again.

Okay, a little update on this problem. I used the "blank/clear" CD and got both the #5 and #6 CD's out and the player worked just fine. I cycled through the stack 1-4 [as 5&6 were empty] several times. It worked perfectly so I decided to put CD's back in. #6 is in and it still works fine. When I try to load #5 it jams up again. So I took out that CD and for the time being I have a 5 CD machine. I can now wait until after the holidays are over before I take to an "expert" for proper repair. That's what I like about this list. It seems most all problems have been 'had' by someone before. Thanks for the help.

Hey all,
This keeps getting better and better. I thought I'd give it another try at making the CD player work right. I tried to insert the same CD into another slot and it caused a malfunction there too. Okay, I thought maybe it was the CD causing the problem and not the player. I can't see anything wrong with the CD, but I was able to insert another one in slot 5 and it worked without a hitch. So, now the CD player is working like it should. The trouble must have been with the CD and that was one I bought at the store. Go figure.

I've found at least with our CD changer that if the CD's are left in too long(like months) without use they'll somewhat distort causing an error from the heat brought on by the interior electronics.

You cannot use a CD with any type of stick on label. If it's a regular stock cd-most are fine but do not use one with any type of raised label. It will jam every time. Talked to a service tech--he said the 6 cd stack has little clearance tolerance due to cramming the 6 stack in such a small space. Sometimes the belt-otherwise known as a cheap rubber band stretches and can break. They can be fixed--I chose to send mine off--it was under extended warranty. I get my occasional stuck CD's out with a thin flat metal strip on which I place 3m double stick tape. Obviously, go on the top side to remove a stuck cd--sometimes you just have to push it in completely and the mechanism engages. I bought a large flat binder clip at Staples but you can use your imagination. Hope this helps!

Hey David,

Thanks for the info. Using the "clear" CD works just fine. As you pointed out, it is best to slide it in on the top of the errant CD so as to avoid scratching it. It is a commercial CD but with a paper label. Most of my others are copies I made and don't have labels. I like to keep the originals at home where it is not subjected to heat and humidity. I put copies in the cars.
