Ok guys here it is. When I shut off the truck with the heater or ac on the fan continues to run. It will run the fan even after I switch the heat/ac to off then back on. Key still off. Now when I shut the truck off with the heat / ac off the fan won't come on when I turn the heat ac back on with the key off. Anyone got any ideas? I hate to take it in to the dealer to hunt down gremlems like this.

Sounds wierd when I turn my truck off my fan runs for a few seconds it shouldn't run any longer then that with the key off. There is no reason to have the fan run with the motor off. It sounds like its working correctly now.
I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks then in the drink with the boat on the rocks.... But either way theres gonna be a good story!!! |

You have one of the Electronically controlled Heat/AC systems in your X as I know the self test procedure that should pull up any embedded DTC's.

no it's the old knob style. I did want to upgrade to climate control but never look too far into putting it in.

The EATC systems are known to be buggy but the manual control systems are usually problem free.
Considering how much electronic modifications you have involved with your Excursion you may have an open/short in the circuitry or the ignition switch may have a short or contact probs.

I was thinking you had the climate control system like my truck...with the knobs that should shut down with the key unless its getting power from somewhere else like a remote starter on the fritz or some crossed up wiring.

well went through and removed the alarm and remote start to see if thats the cause with no luck. All my other mods are powered and controled off the seperate batteries and relays. it seems to do it when it is raining. It was doing it all day yesterday then stopped when the rain did. Now that it is raining again it's doing it again. The truck is dry under the dash and in the engine compartment. so it's gotta have something to do with moisture

Definitely electrical for sure, the ignition switch in the steering column may be a suspect.
