I did a fuel filter and oil change today. When I started the motor to check for leaks, fuel started spraying all over the engine compartment. I had installed the gasket the wrong way. I fixed that and wiped down as best I could the diesel fuel that had spilled. I then drove the truck to the 7-11 and used the defroster. The cabin immediately smelled of diesel fuel. How long can I expect this smell to continue and is there a remedy for it? |

If you sprayed Deisel fuel over the engine area it's gonna take a few days of driving to get most of it dissipated.
The fumes are coming from the engine area gap between the sides of the hood and the fenders which washes up towards the air intake cowling at the bottom of the windshield,if you have any of your heat/air settings on anything but MAC AC the air will be drawn in from the outside cowling I mentioned.
The MAX AC will keep the air recirculating.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will have to tough it out. I drove the truck tonight and ran the defroster and vents, but not the MAX AC. I'll try that if it gets to be overwhelming. |
