Hey guys,

Recently I've been getting a 'rattle' sound coming from the front-end when I go over a slight pothole or manhole cover, or if I'm off-road on slightly rough terrain like crossing a cut corn field, ect.

It sounds like to me that a shock is loose but I have checked then and they seem OK.

Any ideas before I take it into the shop.

I love all the good information from this board because it helps me to be more informed when I take it in for repair.

Thx.

My first thought would be ball joints but that sometimes depends on the mileage the truck has next would be tie rod ends or the tie rod adjustment sleeve lock plates which can tap the sleeves if loose.

PM sent

Agreed! I just did the front end on my Ex. I did tie rod ends, ball joints upper and lower, pitman arm ball joint etc. I was at about 70,000 when I decided it was time! Truck still rides rough though. I'm not to happy with that. Going down a dirt road to work every day, every bump and small pot hole feels like I just hit a huge ditch and the truck sounds like it is going to fall apart.

By the way these parts will set ya back about 400 - 500 bucks. Then Labor is another 500 including alignment. I installed everything myself except for the ball joints. But the alignment was skrewed up so I brought it in to a local shop, they realigned everything and installed the ball joints. I got wacked with a 500+ bill i think it was like $545.

If it turns out to be the ball joints I recommend the greasable Moogs
