Well, my luck on this project has really sucked. It's almost as if someone's telling me not to do it.

Let's see, to recap...ordered 4 used HMMWV tires that were supposed to be in just fine condition with minor tread wear....one of em had two screws in it. Plugged and patched without a problem and dealer is paying for the cost to repair.

Ordered 4 brand new American Eagle Alloy 589 rims in 16.5x9.75 with 3.75 offset. Got in one perfect rim, one perfect rim that had been used and two brand new rims that had flat spots ground into the edges of the rims! Dealer never opened the boxes from the distributor so had no idea. They have the bad rims and are sending me new ones...hopefully soon.

I decided to go ahead and mount two of the tires while I was waiting. Went to the auto shop on base (we can use professional tools for a small fee) and got one mounted no problem. The second we can't get to seat on the rim! Tried using straps to compress the tire and widen the bead wall but can't get it. So, instead of paying $7 to mount and balance the tire I now have to take it to Les Schwab and pay about $20! They charge a surcharge for tires over 35". Oh well....at least it'sll get done.

Well, to add to the list there's one more thing that happened! Overall this has been the best experience though. I ordered a Pro-Comp 6" lift brand new for only 729 with free shipping. Figured I wouldn't find a much better deal than that! Got it in less than a week! Inventoried the parts and there was one missing bracket. No big deal because they are sending me a replacement free of charge. A great experience overall but just one more link in this neverending chain of upsets!

So, now I'm waiting for the two rims to come in. Once I get the tires mounted I'll finally be able to start this lift! This has been almost two months in the making and still haven't seen any true progress! URGH!!!

Well, on a happy note, some of you were wanting pics of the tires and rims. Got em! Here they are. The first two are of some of the problems I had with the rims.

BTW, someone had asked about the military style tires being sreet legal...I checked and they are. And yes these are the radials not the 36" bias ply style.

Mikie

Those tires the goodyear wrangler mts, 4wheel parts wholesalers used to sell them. My friend had them on his rig. Get ready for some loud time hummmmmmm! With less tread you have the louder they get. I think they were standard tires for the hummer?

I'm pretty sure that the Hummer 2 comes with BFG AT 315/75R17's (35") as I shopped around for a set of Hummer take-off's for my Excursion. Found them for $400 with about 20 miles on them. They sure don't look like the one pictured above. Is that a military tire?

I'm waiting for chrome Weld Evo 17x10's to fit them to and then I'll post a pic of the Ex with them on...probably in a week or so.

Those tires are take off's of the REAL Hummer! The H1, I think is the NEW name for it now.

I've seen the H1 with this style and another more "friendly" (read less noisy) version. These are the Military OZ style. These are Army surplus.

I had the more friendly tire and it was the Goodyear Wrangler GSA AT. They retailed at almost $350 a piece. I was lucky to get the for almost cost. After 2k miles I ended up selling them for a profit......made my wife happy Nice tires, little road noise.
