I filled up my X for the first time (whew) and it stopped at about 25 gall ($75) and said it was full. I checked the gauge and it was only past the half tank mark, almost to 3/4 of a tank. What's the deal? is there any known problems, is it my tank that's full and the floater is outta wack? Just wanted to get some input before I take it in. Thanks. |

The Excursions all have a 44 gallon tank..... did you try to put more in slower?
I'd rather be in the boat with a drink on the rocks then in the drink with the boat on the rocks.... But either way theres gonna be a good story!!! |

I'm going to try that next fill up. while filling up it just slowed then stopped indicating a full tank, just to be safe I didn't want to force it untill I asked the knowledgable people on this board if there were any "known problems". |

It's possible the fuel level sensor in the tank is bad,it happens but not often.
A nasty jolt/physical shock can send it outta wack too.

You hit the magic number! Literally. I don't think you have a guage problem. What happend is that the particular station you were at will stop at a pre-determined number ($75) when you pay with a card at the pump. I have had them stop at $50 before. You have to hang the hose back up and start over again. The stations all blame the credit card companies. Usually this only happens at the 'pay-at-the-pumps'. If you choose to pay inside it will let you go all the way to 44 gallons. Trust me on this one. I thought the same thing the first time I filled mine up! You (or I) had never run into this problem before because of smaller gas tanks 20 gallon and under.

Just a possibility, but some gas stations have a maximum dollar amount allowed on their "pay at the pump" terminals. Depending on where I fill up, I sometimes have to put my credit card in two times in order to fill the X. Many around my area used to be set at $75 but since prices have risen, most of the stations have upped it to $100. I'm betting on this being the case since, in your scenario, the gas slowed first, then stopped right at $75....

You know, I thought about that and yes I think that's the case....I did pay at the pump, and thought about that, but "assumed" since this was a diesel pump that it wouldn't have a weird prohibitive feature like that since, in most cases, diesels in the US are typically larger tanks, requiring a bigger fill up. go figure.
I will fill up next time at a place where Semi's fill up (cheaper anyway at $2.54 per gallon here in Los Angeles, CA) and actually pay inside and report back if there is any difference.

The stations all blame the credit card companies. | FWIW, I have the same complaint but the station owners here "blame" the Fire Dept. The local code won't allow more than 25 gallons to be pumped at time.

Ok, filled up yesterday at a Truck stop (by the way be carefull when you fill up there, the pressure is insane! pump it at about half way pressed) I was able to fill up with no problem....and cheaper than anywhere else, too. |
