So the original equipment actuators are junk - to the point that Ford no longer sells
them as replacements
There is evidently a new "redesigned" part now
Question: Were the "redesigned" actuators ever used as factory installed
parts on new trucks?
If so, does anyone know the date this occured?

Cannot answer your direct ?, but I can say the new part IS available from Ford well at least last May it was. And yes the new one is different, but went right into place.
Surprisinly easier then I thought it would |

Is there an easy way to tell the new from the old? Part #, color, etc
Mildly curious since I am in last and final negotiations to buy
04 Ex and would really not like to burn another grand for repairs
at the outset

I cannot say for sure on different part nunmbers
only thing I know is hte new ones had a smaller plastic housing
Cost was $80 but I had the dealer I buoght the truck from get them for me at thier cost of $45
If they need them I wuold ask the salesmand to do the same.
I buoght the truck as is, but they also helped me with the discounted parts. I then installed them myself.
